Do you see the Starlight and the Sunshine and the Fire and the Water?

Do you see the starlight shining through the roof? Do you see him smile when he looks at you?

For a thousand miles he walked,
For a thousand miles and more.
They sang of his heroics,
They sang of his love.
They said he never gave up,
They said he never looked back.

Do you see the sunlight shining through the roof? Do you see her tears when she looks at you?

They were wrong,
They were wrong about everything.
He did not walk for a thousand miles,
He did not walk for a thousand miles and more.
He but sat in his cottage made of wood,
He but sat in his cottage and let the world go by.

Do you see the fire blazing through the window? Do you see them huddled in a corner looking at you?

For a thousand hours she waited,
For a thousand hours and more.
They sang of her love,
They sang of her devotion.
They said she never looked back,
They said she never gave up.

Do you see the water gushing in through the window? Do you see them crying for their loved ones?

They were wrong,
They were wrong about everything.
She did not wait for a thousand hours,
She did not wait for a thousand hours and more.
She but sat in her mansion made of stone,
She but sat in her mansion made of stone and let the world go by.

Do you see the starlight, sunshine, fire and water through the curtains made of paper? Do you see her and him and them?

They called them the greats,
They called them the greats and more.
They said their love was eternal,
They said their love would never die.
They never knew,
They never knew the truth.

I see it.  I see the starlight and sunshine and the fire and the water. I see them through the walls of my house. I see all the truths hidden behind thick curtains of gold.  I see the tears and the smiles and huddles and the mice. I see what many do not. I see it all.
